CHARSADDA: The police on Saturday arrested 13 proclaimed offenders and 20 suspects during an operation launched in a selfdeclared tribal area in Tangi tehsil of Charsadda adjacent to Mohmand Agency.

Around 300 policemen, 28 police mobiles, four armoured personnel carriers and female staff took part in the action.

The Nowshera police were also called to aid the Charsadda police in the operation.

The operation was supervised by district police officer Shafiullah Khan.The police also recovered eight Kalashnikovs, 15 pistols, eight rifles and hundreds of live rounds from the arrested people.

During the operation, the police destroyed poppy crop cultivated on 18 kanals of land and demolished houses of 10 narcotics dealers.

Officials said the operation was launched in Speenkai Salai, Asghar Kalay, Khaista Khan, Khwar Koroona areas, adjacent to the Prang Ghar area of Mohmand.

DPO Shafiullah Khan told this correspondent that police initiated the action after receiving complaints that the area had been declared as tribal area, where narcotics dealers and criminals had set up their hideouts.

He said that the criminals had moved out of the area before launch of the operation.

However, he said the police ended the self-declared tribal area and restored writ of the government there.

Meanwhile, a man was killed and his son and brother were injured when they were attacked in Sarwarabad area here on Saturday.

Police said that Dost Yar was killed, and his son, Imran and brother, Mukhtiar were injured in the attack.

They quoted the injured, Imran as saying that his brother-inlaw, Nadeem alias Babu with help of Inayatullah, Adnan and Siyar attacked them.

Imran was later shifted to a hospital in Peshawar in precarious condition.

The police said the attack was the result of a dispute over women.

They registered case and began investigation.
