TAMPA: The International Indian Film Academy always holds its awards outside of India in a bid to show Bollywood's international appeal, held its first US edition while bringing in two leading names of Hollywood, John Travolta and Kevin Spacey, who delighted the crowd by trying their best at Indian dancing.
“House of Cards” star Spacey, who was wearing a tuxedo, donned an Indian lungi around his waist to cheers from the crowd.
Travolta showed off his legendary “Saturday Night Fever” moves but also took the stage to dance Bollywood-style to the on-spot guidance of actress Priyanka Chopra.
“Bhaag Milka Bhaag,” the story of Olympian Milka Singh, took the prizes for best picture, best director and best actor at the IIFA awards.

IIFA missed out many stars this year for the elections and the elections missed the ones who went to iifa! Should have been scheduled a little more judiciously... Deepika looks beautiful.

@Mr.T IIFA by definition has international element to it. International entertaiment personalities have never been uncommon at IIFAs. Not sure it counts as trying to impress though.

@Mr.T . An average American thinks every Pakistani is a Taliban supporter which we all know is not true. always awareness is key to remove misconceptions and prejudice. India's emergence in IT world has changed America perception on Indians quite a bit in the past decade. Half of Silicon Valley is Indians or Indian origin people. If Bollywood tried to impress Hollywood, that is not bad, trying to bring more awareness on Bollywood and its culture.

Indians should stop being 'wanna-be's' if they want the west to 'respect' them. Only originals are respected never copy cat. In any case, why is a Pakistani newspaper covering an Indian event....and please don't say its an international event. If it was, BBC, France24, CNN would have done coverage on their station as well.
Secondly, the reason John Travolta, Keven spicy and other hollywood stars decided to show up is because they have to come because of commercial interest ( i.e - they have shares/stocks in a company which happens to be owned by an indian).

You may not like Bollywood movies. You may complain about the thousand things wrong with Bollywood movies. You may be jealous. But the fact is, Bollywood has become an entity known to ordinary people even in the western world. It has its own style, own charisma, and is recognized by bigwigs all over the world.

Is it not movie stars of one industry making a show with movie stars from another venue. While yearning for a "Friends and not a Master" the perspective has deformed to view everything in a twisted fashion. I feel sad at pathetic viewpoint.

@Mr.T "All i see is that they (bollywood) want to impress hollywood."
Let's see...a simple search on the internet tells me that since 2000, the IIFA awards have been held in the UK (twice), South Africa (twice), Malaysia, Singapore (twice), Netherlands, UAE, Thailand, Macau (twice), Sri Lanka, Canada, before the ceremony moved to the US this year.
Strangely, I do not see you saying that Bollywood wants to "impress" all these countries across the globe...:-) Perhaps you need to look closely at your own inferiority complex?

That's the jealousy part of yours talking. There are plenty of people all over the world who enjoy those plots and and the high-energy dances.
Here is what John Travolta, who'll be acting in a Bollywood movie "Paani" said: "I would love for the Bollywood influence to actually infiltrate and give Hollywood more confidence in musicals and dance. Musicals in Hollywood are sporadic." "The first musical number (from Ramleela), it was, wow, that was amazing. I find Indian films very original in energy and life."

Boss you can't accept your own malbari how can they accept you ?

Bollywood, like any other film industry, makes both good and bad movies. A huge number of people around the world watch these movies and a huge amount of revenue is generated by these movies. I am sure that a majority of Pakistanis who watch and enjoy Bollywood movies would not agree with some of the childish comments by their fellow citizens here.
