SAHIWAL: Around 63 different public sector departments owe Rs18.58 million to the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco), Sahiwal circle, consisting of Pakpattan and Sahiwal districts.
Mepco has launched an aggressive drive against defaulters from public sector departments.
According to the available record till April 18, 2014, Punjab police are the biggest defaulter with an outstanding amount of Rs6,795,668.
Other defaulter departments are: Punjab district and sessions judge with Rs385,853; Punjab Jail and Convict Settlement Rs1,920,371; Sahiwal District and Tehsil Headquarters Hospitals Rs1239,210; Sahiwal Tehsil Muncipal Adminsitration Rs1,249,739; Chichawatni Town Municipal Administration Rs215,566; Arifwala TMA Rs2,054,286; Sahiwal District basic and rural health centres Rs113,563; Government Boys School, Sahiwal, Rs137,192; District Road and Buildings Department, Sahiwal, Rs166,498; District Basic Health and Rural Unit, Pakpattan District, Rs317,811; Punjab Public Health Engineering Department, Rs81,528; Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation LTD Rs138,245, Punjab Senior Civil Judges 467,945; Punjab Food Department Rs37,465; Punjab Irrigation and Power Department Rs351,701; Punjab Seed Corporation Rs212,382; District Government, Pakpattan, Rs244,046; Agriculture Extension Department, Pakpattan, Rs124,299; Govt Girls School, Pakpattan, Rs238,595; Govt Boys School, Pakpattan, Rs105,772; Revenue Department, Sahiwal, Rs174,498; District Government, Sahiwal, Rs47,736; Revenue Department, Pakpattan, Rs95,795; Agriculture Department, Sahiwal, Rs18,813; District Health Department Rs78,622; Social Welfare Department, Sahiwal, Rs19,034; and Pakpattan TMA owes Rs29,264 to Mepco.
Superintendent Engineer Shahid Iqbal told Dawn Mepco had started an aggressive recovery drive for the last one month.
“If a public department fails to clear its dues, we have clear instructions to cut power supply to it,” he added.
