LAHORE: Former Test captain and fast bowling great Waqar Younis, regarded as a strong candidate for the position of national team head coach, said on Wednesday he had no differences with Moin Khan, the incumbent chief selector-cum-team manager.

Responding to a question while talking to reporters after meeting PCB chairman Najam Sethi here, Waqar said he had no differences with either Moin Khan or, for that matter, with any player of the national team.

“As I am in Lahore I just met the PCB chairman to express my availability as head coach for the Pakistan team, for which I have already submitted an application,” said Waqar.

“And I would like to express that I have no differences with Moin Khan or any player,” added Waqar, who worked as national head coach from March 2010 to August 2011 during the tenure of PCB chairman Ijaz Butt, but resigned under mysterious circumstances.

Waqar, who played 87 Tests and 262 One-day Internationals during an illustrious international career spanning around 14 years, said Pakistan had given him a lot, emphasising it was the duty of all of us to remain ready to serve the country.

Waqar, 42, said though he had also filed an application for the head coach job last time, Moin was selected for the last two assignments — Asia Cup and the World Twenty20.

“But I think it is the PCB’s authority to select any one [for any designated position] and now if I am given a chance [as coach] I will definitely execute my plans I have made for the national team,” said Waqar, who captured 373 Test wickets besides 416 ODI victims.

Though Waqar is widely tipped to be named as next head coach of the Pakistan team but a final decision in this regard will be made after May 5.
