KARACHI: Pakistan’s campaign in the 30th Asian Snooker Championship came to a sudden halt on Thursday night when national champion Mohammad Asif Toba suffered a 1-5 loss at the hands of Malaysian Chuan Leong Thor in the quarter-final in Fujairah.

Asif’s two other compatriots Hamza Akbar and Asjad Iqbal bowed out in the last 32 and last 16 rounds respectively. Asif failed to match the brilliance of his opponent and was only able to take second frame to drew level 1-1 in the best of nine frames encounter.

After going one-all, there was no stopping Chuan who completely outclassed Asif by taking next four frames in-a-row to complete the rout. The former was home 61-24, 21-71, 78-2, 66-2, 89-0, 69-12.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan team is due to return home from Dubai on Sunday.

Results: Quarter-final: Chuan Leong Thor (Malaysia) bt Mohammad Asif Toba (Pak) 5-1 (61-24, 21-71, 78-2, 66-2, 89-0, 69-12).
