WATTOO: PPP Punjab President Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo says if thumb impressions on ballots in the four constituencies marked by the PTI turn out to be bogus, the credibility of the general elections will be questionable and the country will head to mid-term elections.
He said this while talking to reporters after offering condolence to the family of Advocate Humayan Shahzad in People’s Colony on Saturday.
PPP District President Ashraf Khan Sohna was also present.
Wattoo said the May 11 elections were rigged beyond any doubt but the PPP accepted the results for the continuity of democracy in the country. He said the Election Commission of Pakistan must accept pleas seeking verification of thumb impressions by PTI Chairman Imran Khan. He said the 1973 Constitution was a document guaranteeing the unity of the country and there must not be any such exercise which may cause damage to the constitution.
He said Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief Tahirul Qadri seemed to bring about an Iran-like revolution in the country. He said Iran had long been ruled by aristocracy but there was functional democracy in Pakistan, so Qadri stood no chances of bringing about the revolution.
