ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan praised the workers and supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) for demonstrating a “sense of responsibility” during the party’s rally in the capital on Sunday.

In a statement released by the ministry at a time when PTI chief Imran Khan was delivering his speech as the last speaker at the rally held at D-Chowk in protest against the alleged rigging in last year’s general elections, the minister also expressed satisfaction over security arrangements made by the police and security and law-enforcement agencies for the public meeting.

“It is a matter of satisfaction that despite security threats, the federal and provincial institutions worked in a disciplined manner, and no untoward incident was reported from any part of the country,” said the minister.

“This reflects that despite having serious political differences, the two sides [the government and the PTI] demonstrated political maturity and open-heartedness,” the minister said, praising the PTI workers for showing discipline and a “sense of responsibility”.

“This is the beauty and power of democracy that one opposition party recorded its protest, and the government not only facilitated it with an open heart, but provided complete security and protection,” he said.
