This time of the year especially in and around monsoons, lightening is frequent and becomes fatal. People have to be educated, not to take shelter under trees and always switch-off mobile phones. People will argue the mobile phone precaution. However, I have witnessed myself a group of 8 to 10 persons together. One was using a mobile phone in a thunderstorm. He was hit by a low intensity lightening and his hand and the ear which had direct contact with his phone received severe shock and burns. He was evacuated to the hospital where he remain admitted for few days.

Being underneath a tree is the second leading cause of lightning casualties. Since trees are positive charged, and the lightning is negative charged, the tree will probably be struck. Lightning always seeks the highest object.
