Nawaz Sharif meets Ayatollah Khamenei

TEHRAN: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday met the Supreme Leader of Iran Syed Ali Ayatollah Khamenei in Tehran.
The meeting was also attended by delegation accompanying the Prime Minister. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said the Pak-Iran relations have historical perspective.
"We both are Muslim countries having the common traditions. These common bonds make our relationship special," Sharif added.
"People of Pakistan as dear to me as people of Iran," said the Supreme Leader of Iran adding that "I will offer special prayers so that relationship between Pakistan and Iran reaches new bounds and heights."
"I have full confidence that the visit of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would further boost the brotherly relations between the two countries," added Ayatollah Khamenei.
The meeting also discussed issues relating to mutual and bilateral interest. Both the leaders agreed that they have to work in unison for development of the region.

Iranian rulers ...all of them....live a very..very simple life. Shah Reza Pehlvi was known for his extravagance but since the revolution things have changed a lot and the leaders always
keep the welfare of masses in front in every aspect of life. This is exactly in accordance with Islamic teachings. May Allah bless Iran and its leaders / rulers and wish our rulers take a leaf out of their Iranian counterparts.

Iran can use some products and we can use some oil/gas... I see very simple but strong relationship. But there should be no deal between Iran and India which gives Indians the right to use Iranian airspace to attack Pakistan. There is no room for that in "brotherly" relations.

Besides talks, just look around the corner of room where talks were going on. Very simple, No lavishly decoration with imported or domestic ornaments or paintings on the wall as compared to PM House or Presidency in Islamabad which depicted a scene of an Art Gallery?

After reading a few posts praising Iranian's simplicity (shoes) etc, I feel I must point out a few things. Iranians are not simple people at all. They are rich and like to show off sometimes even beyond their financial means. MOST of them do not follow a religion (I am not judging them). The head scarfs that their women wear is taken off as soon as they are our of Iran and ultra modern clothes that would make westerners hang their heads in shame are given preference. I have had extensive exposure to Iranians and their lifestyle. I am not trying to bad mouth them. But, I would rather like to remind the fellow Pakistani's that we are not so bad either. Nawaz Sharif is looking alright. He is well dressed. Don't try and find wrong in everything we do. Respect our people as no body else does (not even Iranians).

It was good to see MNS in national outfit as opposed to western attire. Salute to grand Ayatollah for being so down to earth and simple. Pakistani leaders should learn from this and implement similar life style.

This is a great occasion and as great is this forum of Dawn where voice of the people is amplified in such unison. Gas line, sure and many other projects of mutual interests can be explored between two great countries of two nations united by one religion, and in one region. We even have very many strands of language and culture intimately intertwined.
Pakistani government and politicians should rise above the petty politics and join hands with other regional countries to find multilateral platforms of trade, commerce, culture and education.
India, Sri lanka and Bangladesh and some other Mid-Eastern countries can constitute a great progressive club for their common benefit

With all due respects, do you honestly think Iran is better off now then before these Ayatollahs took over? If the answer is yes, then I don't have anything else to say - however, if the answer is no, why is this man getting so many compliments? Iran did not have to be run by the Shah - however, there has to be a middle ground!

Look at Raiwind and look at the meeting room of Iranian leader. The whole back ground is reflecting simplicity, the basic principle of Islam. Its not the show and pump which shows the strength of a nation its the leadership. I wish our leaders should learn lesson from the Islamic republic of Iran and bring areal changes in Pakistan.

According to Iranian media Ayatollah said to our PM 'the improvement in ties btw two countries should not need and depend upton permission and wishes of USA'. A very clear message to PM, i suppose.

For your very kind information, I have friends who are from Iran or have visited Iran in the last decade and I am hearing from them! If Iran was doing as well as you claim it is, why would it's currency be devalued so much? Why would it want to "negotiate" to ease sanctions - if, as per you, these sanctions have not deterred them from making progress? Yes, I am an independent thinker - but obviously you don't look at the facts in front of you, but continue to live in an imaginary world, where nothing could ever come in Iran's way to continue progressing! Do you know most countries are afraid to deal with Iran, because the United States has threatened them with stiff repercussions! Surely, Iran can't continue to prosper, just conducting business deals within itself!
