KARACHI: Talented Hasan Farooq shocked his own coach Vinod Das in a super tie-breaker to sail into the last four stage of the Anti Tobacco Day Tennis Tournament at the Karachi Club hard courts here on Wednesday.

The 15-year-old Hasan played some superb stroke and forceful winners to overpower Vinod after a gruelling two-hour contest.

Vinod battled hard in the opening set to win 7-5 with some brilliant shot all around the courts but Hasan came back strongly to win the second set with an identical shoreline of 7-5. Vinod then produced another quality game to level the score and set an exciting finish in a super tie-breaker.

Both Hasan and Vinod played neck to neck before two forceful winners helped the former to seize a place in the semi-finals.

Top seed Yasir Khan, his brother Jalil Khan and veteran Nomi Qamar also advanced into the last four stage with comfortable victories.

Meanwhile, Hasan Farooq also moved into the quarter-finals of Junior Under-18 singles with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Ajay Lal.
