LAHORE: Leading advertising expert and columnist Masood Hasan died here after brief illness on Sunday morning. He was 72.

Funeral prayers were held at his 11-B Waris Road residence and he was laid to rest at Guru Mangat Road graveyard in the afternoon.

Hasan was the younger brother of Pakistan’s celebrated columnist the late Khalid Hasan and the father of singer Mekaal Hasan. His wife Dr Ira retired as Kinnaird College principal a few years ago.

Born in 1942 in Jammu, he used to first write satirical columns "Off the Beaten Track" and "From the Doghouse" in The Pakistan Times. Later he started writing his column "Over the Top" in The News.

His satire was subtle and woven into the texture of real English. He lacked that mass appeal which the late Khalid Hasan had.

He was the sixth and youngest child of Dr Noor Hussain, Deputy Director of Medical Services, Jammu and Kashmir, before the partition. His elder sister Soraya was married to K.H. Khurshid, Quaid’s secretary and former AK President, who resigned due to his differences with Ayub Khan.
