RAWALPINDI: Parks and Horticulture Agency (PHA) will start construction of cricket and hockey stadiums at Government Viqarun Nisa College on Tipu Road to the tune of Rs52.67 million within a few days.
PHA Managing Director Akram Soban, while talking to Dawn, said the two stadiums will be constructed at the Government Viqarun Nisa Girls College to provide sports facilities to girl students.
“There was no place for women’s cricket and hockey teams to play in the garrison city and the provincial government wanted to start provincial level matches at these stadiums,” he said, adding that all provincial matches will be held in the garrison city from August 14.
The provincial teams will stay in the college in a safe and secure environment.
Mr Akram said the PHA was already working on two cricket stadiums at Government Jamia High School Dhoke Kashmirian and Government Muslim High School Saidpur Road at a cost of Rs45 million.
“Construction work will be completed by June 30. Funds have been provided by the Punjab government, and the projects will be inaugurated by former Member of National Assembly Raja Hanif Abbasi,” he said.
