LAHORE: A woman’s body was found hanging on a tree in Punjab’s Layyah area on Friday, DawnNews reported.
The woman was kidnapped earlier but was later found murdered with her body hanging on a tree.
Speaking to Dawn.com, rights activist Farzana Bari said, this was a barbaric act.
Bari further said that the increase in such inhuman acts was due to the absence of accountability in Pakistan adding that, people think that they can easily get away with such acts without being punished which gave them the courage to pursue such acts.

Our leaders are more concerned about the laptops, bullet trains and metro busses. We need judicial reforms, police reforms and investments on education, health and energy. Please don't waste tax payer's money.

This is not majorly due to absence of accountability, its because of the our Media and violence shown everywhere. Our TV channels have made all of us mentally sick and the icing is done by our govt.

Rapist and killers of women are the second kind of terrorist, army should take action against them too, because government will not do and police is incompetent.

Such horrible incident! Due terrorism, radicalism; Pakistan society is become struggling and became breakages it is norms and customs. Pakistan Govt should focused on such small incident and civil law enforcement agencies, Police should sort such criminals as it will help Pakistani society to more become peaceful. If Government social structural departments are become avoid to control such incidents than they are already losing there worth but they become just paper institutes and it leads towards society in anarchy.

Ms Farhan Bari. Please refrain from generalizing Pakistani men to score your fan points. People who hanged her were mentally ill, not all.

And we still call our country Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Why don't we talk about teachings of Islam when it comes to the rights of women and minorities. Our political and religious leaders are used to exploiting religion for their own objectives.

This is just another example of how easy it is for Pakistanis to be killed and not even noticed by the very people who are responsible for our security. Only a few days ago 8 people were killed on our streets and everyone in position of responsibility is looking for lame excuses. What a shame. I suppose only when one of their own is killed, they would start feeling the pain.

We need to educate our boys and men that such things are wrong. And we need to punish the perpetrators of such terrible crimes extremely severely.

Sanity and Peace can only prevail if the culprits are properly sentenced and the penalty is imposed. What are we thinking to achieve by not hanging people sentenced to death by courts? Do we think that the society will transform if a rapist. a murderer etc is not hanged just because we want to promote a soft image of our country on the pretext of European Union and other donors.
@Ms.Farzana Bari : Please abstain from making remarks about the men in general w.r.t the incident, the culprits are in minority and that too due to ignorance.

Perhaps this is why Pakistan has been ruled by military junta for half of it's existence purely due to the incompetence of the civilian governmental administration and institutions?
There is a distinct lack of professionalism to develop and further the accountability cause by the governmental institutions to 'serve' the public.
Instead the civil servants have turned the whole concept on it's head so that the public 'serves' their interests' - how can we ever get out of this mess??

We are supposed to be the protectors of our women folks
and here we are doing exactly the opposite. i think it all relates to lack of accountability and a very severe punishment or even death penalty for the guilty ones. Need to revisit crime and punishment.

@Fouad Farzana Bari used the term 'people' not 'man'. How is she generalizing all 'men'. Read the passage properly before leveling such allegations.

@Awais
If the media doesn't show what's happening in our country, then are we to blame them for being ignorant or uninformed?
If things are happening in our country, then a respectable media institution should inform the public. It is their duty.
However, when the media acts according to their own agenda, and is not unbias and committed to the truth, then shame on them. And shame on us for not questioning the media. All too easily, we take the media information on face value. But we should be sceptical when commonsense tells us so.
There is no law and order in Pk. The police can be bought off. And the officials/police are either bought off or pay off the investigators so that noone can touch them. If you are getting sick of seeing all the problems in this country, then make a real stand and do something about it.... Tell your friends...#TimeToStandUp

@Mohammad Akhtar This isn't the job of the army. This is the reason we have a police force. This is their mandate. Get active and put pressure on your leaders and local officials. Go to the voting stations! #TimeToStandUp

@Fouad She never said it was all men. Why did people even like this comment?
Be open minded. I have a feeling the likers of this comment just liked because it was against what a woman allegedly said. Clearly she said nothing of the kind in the above article. Obviously, the people who did this are ill. But it could be anyone who is uneducated and so transfixed in a culture where this is the norm. We need to make a stand and change this. The police also need to make a big stand and send all those in positions of power who accept such actions, to jail!... #TimeToStandUp

Miss Farzana bari you might be so happy as your statement has been published in well known news agencies like bbc. dawn etc..... but I ask you have you ever harmed by these mentally ill Pakistani men, if not so then why you blam them all. Bad and good people are in every society but you should not criticise all the community for the act of a single man... you have presented a very bad image of Pakistani men. .... it is requested that avoid such statements that disgrace the whole nation.
