KARACHI: Some 100 pugilists across the province are expected to show their prowess when the two-day Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto boxing tournament begins at the KPT Sports Complex here on Thursday.

Sindh Boxing Association (SBA) secretary Asghar Baloch said on Tuesday that besides five district outfits of Karachi, teams from Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Larkana, Sukkur, Pakistan Rangers Sindh, Sindh Police and National Bank of Pakistan will field their teams in the competition.

According to him, competitions will be held in eight weights — 49kg, 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 64kg, 69kg, 75kg and 81kg.

The event will form criteria for selection of around 16 boxers who will undergo training in camp before featuring in trials for the selection of Pakistan team for this year’s Asian Games slated in Incheon, South Korea, he added.
