DADU, July 15: Four spurs of Nain Gaj and 15 houses in the Talpur village were washed away in the Johi taluka on Tuesday as water level again rose to nine feet in the rain drain which changed its course.

Executive engineer, irrigation, Dadu, Habibullah Kabooro told this correspondent that the spurs were constructed at sensitive points of the drain embankment to divert its flow after the 1995 flood.

He claimed that the irrigation staff had been repairing the spurs every year, adding that their washing away was not dangerous for the area.

However, he admitted that water level in Nain Gaj and Manchhar Lake was increasing and said that measures were taken to strengthen flood protective embankments.

On the other hand, an activist of an NGO, Bakht Jamal Soomro, said that the irrigation officials had not taken any preventive measures at Nain Gaj and the flood protective embankments.

He warned that if water flow increased in Nain Gaj, it would be disastrous for the embankments.
