LAHORE: A group of lawyers helped a suspect of fraud escape the FIA custody after a Lahore High Court single bench dismissed his bail petition on Wednesday.

Rafiq, an employee at a rice mill, allegedly stole cheques of his employer and drew Rs3 million from the account. The mill owner got a case registered against the suspect with the FIA. Rafiq also got a counter-case lodged against his owner and later both filed their bail petitions.

Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik granted bail to the mill owner but denied it to the suspect.

The counsel for the suspect, along with other lawyers, offered resistance to the FIA officials when they tried to arrest him and acted as a shield to make him flee. — Staff Reporter
