LAHORE: A group of lawyers helped a suspect of fraud escape the FIA custody after a Lahore High Court single bench dismissed his bail petition on Wednesday.
Rafiq, an employee at a rice mill, allegedly stole cheques of his employer and drew Rs3 million from the account. The mill owner got a case registered against the suspect with the FIA. Rafiq also got a counter-case lodged against his owner and later both filed their bail petitions.
Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik granted bail to the mill owner but denied it to the suspect.
The counsel for the suspect, along with other lawyers, offered resistance to the FIA officials when they tried to arrest him and acted as a shield to make him flee. — Staff Reporter

Upholding the law? Isn't that what a lawyer is supposed to be doing?
Not assisting with a felony....
Unreal!

These lawyers would have entered into folk heroes of our great lawyers community, who sit most of their time in cafeterias or under the shades of trees yawning, sleeping, talking politics or just non sense. There are hundreds and hundreds of unresolved cases sitting in their files for attention, but who cares?

There has been many incidents in which Lawyers helped their clients flee from police custody from Courts. Strict action needs to be taken against such Lawyers as they are not only making a mockery of the laws but they are also promoting the mob mentality.

My respect for lawyers was gone the day when they showered Mumtaz Qadri, the killer of Governor Salmaan Taseer with rose petals.

@Waheed Iqbal
The Lawyers should be held accountable for their actions, and an FIR should be lodged against them. If they are found guilty then they should be barred from the the courts and sent to jail.

@Saad Zafar Don't you think - long time ago all those lawyers must be hanged by the trees - for a fortnight along with Qadri corpses - garland with red roses --reminder to the masses and the fraternity -- than today we would not be reading such nonsense news -- spineless judiciary and corrupt govts. No wonder we see so much lawlessness in our society where supposed holders of law are hand in gloves with criminals. Very shameful.

Shielding a culprit / letting him flee is minor thing, there are many incidents of thrashing the JUDICIAL OFFICERS only for the reason they did not accommodate the request for bail etc etc
