The day belonged to Europeans as Germany and France stomped over their opponents and made it to the quarter-finals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup being played in Brazil.
In the first one of Monday's Round-of-16 matches, Frenchmen Paul Pogba and Joseph Yobo scored two late goals to end Nigerian hopes in the World Cup.
“There are no words to describe this,” Pogba said on the occasion.
In the next match, all goals were scored during extra time. Andre Schuerrle and Mesut Ozil struck in the 92nd and 120th minute to earn Germany a decisive double lead. Algeria hit back with a goal in the dying moments of the game but were still edged out of the tournament.
