KOHAT: A tribesman was killed and three others were critically injured when unknown armed men opened fire at a car near Kohat Tunnel on Wednesday.

The inmates were going to Darra Adamkhel from Kohat when their car came under attack when it slowed down on the Al-Shafa Hospital road for taking turn towards the Indus Highway.

The deceased was identified as Shafique Khan and the injured, Fazal Raheem, Mohammad Younis and Shah Hussain, were taken to KDA divisional headquarters hospital, Kohat.

The police were trying to make contact with the relatives of the victims so a case could be registered and investigation started, said an official.

CRUDE OIL SEIZED: The police on Wednesday raided an illegal oil depot on Rawalpindi road and seized thousands of gallons of crude oil stored in three tanks, and arrested eight persons.

The Bilitang police officials said that they had a tip-off that one Hassan Khan had stolen the oil from the heavily guarded OGDCL oil pumping facility. The arrested men included Shahid Mohammad, Ghulam Asghar, Ayaz Khan, Akhtar Mohammad, Mughal Khan, Said Mohammad, Hamid Jan and owner, Hassan Jan.

The police claimed that the investigation revealed that the oil was stolen with the connivance of OGDCL employees. They said that the practice had been continuing for many years.

PROFITEERS FINED: The district administration fined 13 profiteers at various bazaars on Wednesday.

On the directives of the deputy commissioner, assistant commissioner Farrukh Atique leading a team paid surprise visits to shops on Bannu and Hangu roads and the main bazaar. They found price lists missing at various shops and fined the traders Rs90,000 beside warning them of arrest if they indulged in profiteering in future.

The deputy commissioner has said that such raids would be carried out on daily basis during the Ramazan to keep check on prices.

Meanwhile, district administration on Wednesday arrested manager of a utility store outlet in Mohallah Sikandar Khan Shaheed and also sealed the facility over hoarding commodities. Later, the manager was handed over to police for investigation.
