BAHAWALPUR: Police have tightened security across the city and other parts of the district, particularly around mosques during Taraveeh prayers.

On the directives of District Police Officer Sarfaraz Ahmed Falki, special bunkers for security policemen were being constructed outside mosques while most had been built already.

The extraordinary security measures had been taken after the Uch Sharif incident in which constable Haibat Khan and his companion razakar Abdul Sattar were shot dead.

TORTURE: A woman, along with one of her sons, allegedly tortured her younger son to death in village 53/DB near Yazman, about 40km from here.

According to Saddar police, seven-year-old Ali Haider, had been brought up by his paternal aunt and was very close to her. He would spend most of his time with her but his mother, Ramzana Bibi, did not approve of this and refrained Haider from visiting his aunt.

On Tuesday night, when Haider returned from his aunt’s house, his mother Ramzana and elder brother Muddasir reprimanded him, allegedly thrashed and tortured him so much that he died.

Police claim to have arrested both mother and son for killing the boy.

POACHERS: The Wildlife Department claim to have arrested two poachers from Cholistan on Tuesday night and recovered three slaughtered deer from their possession.

According to a press release, on a tip-off the department’s raiding team combed the desert strip in Cholistan and caught two men on a motorcycle, Muhammad Sarwar and Muhammad Shabbir, while their third accomplice managed to escape.

Three slaughtered deer along with a 12-bore pistol and their bike were seized.

A wildlife official claimed the men were wanted in several cases of illegal hunting.
