GWADAR: A tsunami warning system installed in Gwadar in 2012 has not been working for the past two years.

Official sources said that the control of the system installed in collaboration with the United Nations was handed over to the Met Office in 2012. The system has not been working because the Met Office has not paid service charges to the satellite company which was hired to issue warnings of tsunami.

A new building of the Met Office was constructed in Gwadar two years ago, but it is not in operation because only one official is deployed there. Besides, it lacks required equipment and other facilities.

According to the sources, it seems senior officials concerned are not interested in making the tsunami warning system functional.
