LAHORE: Pakistan's cricket star Umar Akmal has filed a suit on Tuesday against a traffic warden of Lahore, Zeeshan, DawnNews reported.
The wicket keeper claimed that police by using their influence had forced his father to tender a written apology to the traffic warden, Zeeshan, with whom he had entered into a scuffle.
Akmal filed an application in a local session court in the presence of additional and sessions Judge Safdar Ali Bhatti.
He said he was not in the country at the time police personnel forced his father to apologise, adding that his side of the story had not been heard.
Akmal further said, he is a national hero and Zeeshan’s attempt to arrest him had humiliated him therefore he demanded an action to be taken against Zeeshan
The court summoned the Gulberg police station to provide a complete record of the case on September 16.
Earlier on Feb 1, Akmal was arrested after police said he did not stop at a traffic signal in Lahore’s Firdous market area and later brawled with a traffic warden. He was detained the same day and released a day later on a bail order issued by a local court against a surety bond of Rs100,000.
Akmal also denied the charges, claiming he had been assaulted by the traffic warden first.

Had there been any justice, Umer should have been arrested for six months and PCB should have banned him for five years from any international and domestic cricket. The policeman who had arrested Umer should have been awarded for doing the right thing, law should be equal to everyone.
Shame on you Umer. Is that how you would like to be remembered that you had a brawl with an officer who was doing his job. Umer your attitude simply disgust us, you have a very common disease that is contagious to every other Pakistani, its called "foot in the mouth"

Cheap and sadistic police wardens need to be made an example who have a major inferiority compex.I believe Umar's side of the story needs to be heard too, these Constables have all the right to enforce law but i can aussure you there are many unruly and sinister Constables who take the application of the law a little too far and too fast when they come up against a well to do person.

Since when did this guy become a national hero? And, does being a national hero give him the license to break the law and when checked, physically manhandle the traffic warden? Kudos to the warden and the police officer who gave him the taste of police lock up for few hours. He should have been proceeded against as per the prevailing laws and sentenced.

National Hero does not mean you can do what you want, law should be equal for everyone with obviously few exceptions/untouchables. Why it has taken so long to file a case against the Traffic Warden, maybe at the behest of someone or to get cheap publicity.

Just because you class yourself as a National Hero does not mean you can hit a police officer, it shows that anyone can get away with any crime in Pakistan these people think they are above the law, any other country he would have been arrested and charged by now.

WoW.. so he is a national hero, that means he is exempt from the law? The fact that any person who can think at this level, like the elite and politicians is what is wrong with the country. Laws are made, but they feel that the laws are not applicable to them. Ridiculous and a disgrace... Let's see what happens when he gets embroiled in a scandal with the ICC
