KARACHI: A policeman was gunned down in the Quaidabad area on Monday evening hours after police claimed to have killed five suspected militants in an alleged encounter in the same locality.

Officials said Constable Motin Khan was performing his duty outside Tayba Masjid at Daud Chowrangi when armed motorcyclists attacked him and fled. He was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The assailants took away his official SMG, said Sharafi Goth SHO Zakirullah.
