KHAIRPUR, July 18: During the recent heavy rains, embankments of the Rohri Canal have been badly damaged as a result of which many areas on both sides of the canal are likely to be flooded.

Embankments of the Rohri Canal have weakened after the heavy rains and large portions of embankments have fallen inside the canal as a result of which the areas of Luqman, Therhi, Ranipur, Gambat, Khuhra, Daraza Sharif, some parts of Naushahro Feroze and more than 100 villages on both sides of the canal are likely to be flooded.

The government had imposed section 144 against the bathing of buffaloes in the canal but a large number of them can still be seen in the canal.

The water level at Ranipur with a water flow of around 14,000 cusecs is said to be 50 feet higher than the ground level, which is critically endangering the condition of embankments of the Rohri Canal at Ranipur.

Half of the bridge over the Rohri Canal at Ranipur has been damaged to the extent that it can collapse any time, while the bridge on the National Highway, near Therhi, has also been damaged.
