Kabul, Swat rivers in medium, low flood: FFC

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has announced that the Kabul River is continuously running in medium flood at Warsak-Nowshera point while the Swat River is at low flood at the Charsadda road bridge.

According to daily FFC report issued on Friday, water flow in the Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rivers was normal.

Friday’s actual river flow and reservoirs, the report said, indicated that Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs had reached 1476.47 feet and 1211.95 feet respectively, and these two reservoirs were 73.53 feet and 30.05 feet below their respective maximum conservation levels of 1550.00 feet and 1242.00 feet.

The combined live storage capacity of Tarbela, Chashma and Mangla reservoirs is now 7.981 MAF as compared to the last year’s 9.225 MAF.

According to Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, Thursday’s feeble trough of westerly wave had continued to prevail over Kashmir and adjoining areas and was likely to move away eastwards over the next 24 hours.

Yesterday’s monsoon low still persists over northwestern Madhya Pradesh (India), but it has slightly weakened.

The seasonal low lies over northeastern Balochistan. The moist current from the Arabian Sea is penetrating Kashmir and Punjab up to 3000 feet.

Scattered thundershowers are likely in Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore and Bahawalpur divisions, eastern and southern Sindh, Malakand and Hazara divisions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and upper catchments of Rivers Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej over the next 24 hours.
