BADIN: Villagers shot down a cheetah cub which had reportedly crossed over from India in Mohammad Moosa Khaskheli village near Nindo Shahar town late on Saturday night.
Villagers told journalists that they had spotted the cub three days back when it was chasing and trying to attack children. They, therefore, shot it down late on Saturday night when it was asleep in a nearby field.
A team of wildlife department officials reached the village on Sunday and took away the cub’s carcass.
Earlier, people in a Nangrparkar village in Thar desert killed two cheetahs a couple of weeks ago. These predators had also crossed over from India.

That is not a cheetah. There are no wild cheetahs in Pakistan or India, looks more like a fishing cat (Prionailurus viverrinus).

Instead of killing the leopard cub, the villagers should have called the forest rangers, so that a trap could be laid.

Evevn in suburban mumbai where leopords stroll in human habitats , they usual practise is to catch them alive and release in wild. Killing is very last of option.ANd it has worked. Besides I am doubtful if its a cheetah

Firstly the indian cheetah is already extinct.Secondly what ever the animal was 'How cruel it is to shoot a cub in sleep that too when u are fasting in Ramzan.It seems there is very little awareness about the protection of wild life in Pakistan.

There are no cheetahs left in India! They became extinct back in the mid-1900s thanks to hunting and habitat loss. This is a rusty spotted cat, a small feline that is no threat to humans. Most predators want to avoid humans because we are their biggest threat and the reason so many are threatened or endangered.

How easy it is to kill. How difficult it is to create and maintain life. By this time we should all understand that animals are more in danger from people than the other way around. It is high time we do something about the population problem so we can maintain space for humans, animals, plants and all forms of life. Biological imbalance will eventually lead to our own extinction.

Thought that the Asian cheetah was extinct in India and Pakistan. Only the Iranians have some Asiatic cheetahs left. Very sad story. Are there no laws against killing these animals? In India there are laws against hunting rare game. Sadly nobody really obeys the law or enforces it like they should.

This is not a cheetah, though they do exist in Pakistan along the Iranian border. Looks like a fishing cat and its still very unfortunate that it was shot - they are becoming rare in Pakistan.

The poor creature is not a cheetah cub rather a fishing cat. The whole reporting is sad, especially when the correspondent callously tops "(people) killed two cheetahs a couple of weeks ago. These predators had also crossed over from India" as if killing wildlife was OK under some pretext.
