ISLAMABAD, July 18: Rawalpindi drew their match against Attock after forcing them to follow-on in their National Under-19 Cricket Championship match at the Army Cricket Ground on Friday.

The hosts, thanks to leg spinner Khalid Mushtaq’s fine bowling who finished with a haul of six for 25, sent Attock packing for just 98 after they had resumed at 31 for two. Rawalpindi had scored 219 for nine declared in their first innings.

Following on, Attock were 121 for seven when play ended, Khalid picking up another two wickets to have match figures of eight for 46. Kamran Baig chipped in with two wickets giving away 20 runs.

Islamabad also drew their match against Azad Jammu Kashmir to claim three points by virtue of having gained first innings lead of 41 runs.

Playing at the KRL Stadium, the home side after starting the day at 170 for six piled up 238 for seven off 70 overs. Asad Manzoor and Zohaib Ahmed hit fine half centuries. Mujtaba Gardezi captured three wickets for 64 runs while Javed Iqbal had two for 67.

Fayyaz Ahmed, Islamabad’s leg spinner then ran through the rival batting taking six wickets for 43 runs as AJK capitulated for 197 having faced 46.4 overs.

Islamabad were 83 for three with Umar Khattak 28 not out and Fayyaz Ahmed on four when the match ended.

At the Shalimar Cricket Ground, the match between Jhelum and Chakwal also ended in a tame draw.

However Jhelum emerged from the match with three points after sending Chakwal crashing to 119 for a first innings lead of 62 runs. Chakwal, replying to Jhelum’s score of 181 had resumed at four for no loss in the morning. However their batsmen, apart from Jehanzeb’s unbeaten 36 yielded to the opposing attack in which Muhammad Aqeel and Qasim Maqbool shared six wickets.

At Shalimar Cricket Ground, Islamabad: JHELUM 181 in 64.4 overs (Muhammad Fayyaz 65; Muhammad Younis 3-19, Muhammad Zubair 3-49);

CHAKWAL 119 in 52 overs (Jehanzeb 36 not out; Muhammad Adeel 3-27, Qasim Maqbool 3-28). Match drawn.

Our Correspondent adds from Lahore: The match between East Zone Whites and West Zone Blues in the Inter-district (Under-19) Championship Lahore Region ended in a draw at Gaddafi Stadium on Friday partly due to heavy downpour on Wednesday.

After a complete washout on first day (Thursday), the match started at 11 a.m in the morning.

East Zone Whites, who were put to bat first were 197 for seven in 55 overs when the regulation time ended.

Atif Ejaz enjoyed the batting with a fine knock of 77, studded with seven boundaries. Shahid Khan also played well, scoring 51 off 89 balls with six fours.

Not a single ball could be bowled in other two matches of the region at the LCCA Ground and Moghalpura Institute Ground and the teams shared points.

APP adds from Multan: Opener Shehbaz Ahmad hit an unbeaten double century at Zafar Ali Shah Stadium, Sahiwal, enabling the hosts grab three points for first innings lead against Multan in the two-day match of PCB Inter-district U-19 tournament that ended in a draw on Friday.

At stumps on Thursday, Multan, after being invited by Sahiwal to bat first, had scored 194 at the cost of nine wickets. The tenth wicket fell on Friday with the addition of only four more scores finishing Multan’s innings at 198 for all.

Sahiwal team was 374 for eight wickets when match organizers announced end of the match yielding a drawn result.
