MINGORA: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani on Tuesday said that a police training centre would soon be established in Mingora to enhance capacity of personnel to enable them to better protect the people of Malakand division.

Talking to reporters after inaugurating Javed Iqbal Shaheed Police Lines at Kabal, he said that number of training centres would be increased in the province where all necessary facilities would be provided to personnel.

He said that police and army had jointly cleared of militants a village at the border of Buner and Swat districts. “Police and army had established a joint post there and eliminated militants from the village,” added Mr Durrani.

Mr Durrani said that capacity building of policemen was need of the hour so they could better handle the situation if army withdrew from Swat. “Policemen have a lot of advantages over army as they are well accustomed to local needs,” he added.

The KP police chief said the force had been fighting militancy with courage and commitment despite suffering casualties.

Meanwhile, an official said that Swat police lines had been completed at a cost of Rs371 million, spreading over an area of 52 kanals with 138,000 square foot covered area. The official added that the police lines had been constructed with the funds provided by the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs of the United States.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Malakand division, Abdullah Khan, Swat DPO Sher Akbar Khan and other police officials were also in attendance.

DENGUE PATIENT DETECTED: Another dengue case was detected at the Saidu Hospital on Tuesday, taking the number of patients to 32 in Mingora city.

According to sources, Nawab Ali, 22, resident of Skha Cheena Amankot, tested positive for dengue fever.

An official at the hospital said that 26 patients had been discharged from the hospital after completion of treatment, while four patients, including three women, were under treatment in medical-B ward of the hospital.
