PESHAWAR: Security forces said they have gunned down a militant and arrested another in the Jannikhel area of Bannu district on Saturday.
Official sources said that security forces were attacked while conducting a search operation in Frontier Region in Jannikhel.
Security personnel subsequently responded to the assault with retaliatory firing. Sources added that one militant was killed in the gun battle that took place between the two sides whereas another, who was identified as Waliullah, was arrested.
Sources said the arrested suspect was wanted by law enforcement agencies in various cases of terrorism.
The militant killed in the encounter was identified as Matiullah.
The northwestern town of Bannu, which stands at the gateway to the semi-autonomous Waziristan tribal region, is 150 kilometres southwest of Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province
Three tribal policemen injured
Unidentified gunmen ambushed tribal policemen in Jamrud Tehsil of Khyber Agency on Saturday, injuring three of them.
According to official sources, the Khasadar force personnel were attacked near Ali Majid area on the main Pak-Afghan Highway.
The injured were shifted to a hospital for medical treatment and their condition was said to be critical.
