Produced under the Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment banner, this action-thriller is a remake of a 2009 Telugu film of the same name.

Lead character Devi Lal Singh aka Devil (Salman Khan) craves thrill and wants to find adventure in everything possible thing. Despite his impressive IQ (which is possibly higher than Einstein's) and adrenaline overload, he doesn't have much luck with women due to his inability to stick to a job. As a result of this, he becomes a high-profile robber and the target of an efficient and decorated police officer Himanshu (Randeep Hooda).

Himanshu, who has taken an oath to catch Devil, follows him to Poland where he meets his childhood friend Shaina (Jaqueline Fernandez). Himanshu learns that Shaina has had her heart broken by an eccentric boyfriend, but what he doesn't know is that her former boyfriend is Devil. And so, Devil leads Shaina on while simultaneously playing a cat and mouse game with the police while he hatches a robbery plan.

Kick has a decent storyline and well-written screenplay. Being a debutante director, Nadiadwala does a stunning job giving each talented actor enough space, lines and camera time to perform.

Kick, isn’t just about Salman Khan, it also has Randeep Hooda, Mithun Chakraborty, Sanjay Mishra, Saurabh Shukla, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Archana Puran Singh. Bringing a cast together that can easily overshadow each other, and still managing to keep their roles in proportion, is something that needs great skill – and by doing that, Nadiadwala has proved to be a competent director.

Shot in Mumbai and Poland, Kick has some decent sights to see. Action sequences are well-executed and thorough. As compared to 2013 Dhoom 3 of same genre, Kick’s stunts are more realistic. Sizzling dance numbers add the extra oomph movie-lovers run to the cinema for.

With a fresher and much younger look, Salman Khan seems determined to impress his fans.

Randeep Hooda – unaffected by Khan’s presence – takes charge of every scene where they appear together. Both stars are given equal camera time.

But who is the real hero? Is it Salman, who plays the bold and arrogant Devil? Or Randeep, a good, smart cop, who is also wise and courageous — ready to accept any challenge?

Jacqueline proves her role isn’t just to fill the gaps. Sanjay Mishra plays a short role of a nincompoop of a policeman, but manages to steal the show from Salman Khan. Saurabh Shukla, Mithun Chakraborty and Archana Puran Singh all have smalls role, which they play really well.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, with his evil chuckle and weak morals, is the real devil of the movie.

The film has its humourous moments and some quirky (read: bizarre) dialogues like,“Eid aa rahi hai, aur wo apni Eidi lene zaroor aayega” and “Mere baare mein ziada mat sochna, dil mein aata hoon, samajh mein nahi", which make it a fun watch.

The final word

Kick is entertaining if you are looking for a mindless masala flick this Eid. Don't expect it to be more than what it is — a film in the 'time-pass' category.
