JEDDAH: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said Tuesday that the history of Pakistan has witnessed many revolutions but only democracy could bring a revolution in Pakistan, DawnNews reported.
Speaking to reporters in Jeddah, the prime minister said that a few thousands could not make the mandate of millions of people hostage.
He said all the political and religious forces in Pakistan were in favour of democracy with no one opposing it.
Underscoring the importance of democracy, the premier said it was the only way forward, adding that those who want change should pursue talks as opposed to taking to the streets.
The premier said if there were some misled elements, the doors of dialogue were open for them. He added that the government was ready to hold dialogue with everyone.
Nawaz said those indulging in the politics of sit-ins should apprise every one of their demands. He said so far these people had not even told the masses about their demands.
The sit-ins were very non-serious acts which harm the country, he added.

The comments from Prime Minister Sharif came at a time when the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) is set to launch its 'Azadi March' on August 14, aimed at staging a sit-in until its demands are met.
Earlier, PTI chief Imran Khan had said that the ‘Naya Pakistan’ could only be created after the people came out on the streets. “The Azadi March (from Lahore) will be a final battle to root out the corrupt and bring in a fair system in the country,” he had said.
Imran had also said that “nobody should misunderstand that the PTI is going to hold a simple public protest gathering in Islamabad”.
PTI has been accusing the ruling government of rigging the May 2013 elections and has demanded a recount of votes in all constituencies.
Along with the PTI, Tahirul Qadri of the Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) has also been referring to what he calls a revolution to be set in motion after Eid.
Meetings with Saudi leadership
The prime minister moreover said the government's total attention was focused on ensuring political stability, economic development and addressing the energy problems in the country and all the political forces were with them in this regard.
Nawaz said he had very productive meetings with the Saudi leadership including King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Salman bin Abdulaziz, Vice Crown Prince, Muqrin bin Abdulaziz and other officials.
He termed Khadim-e-Harmain Sharifain as his brother and said the Saudi businessmen will be encouraged to invest in Pakistan's various sectors of economy, including the energy sector.
Earlier, the Prime Minister offered Fateha and prayed for the departed soul of late Majeed Nizami.
The premier said with the death of Nizami, the nation had lost a great patriot.
On the occasion, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Sharif, the government had achieved major economic development targets during the last few months, which could not be achieved by previous governments during their tenures.
He said on the direction of the Prime Minister, country's money deposited in Swiss banks or any other bank abroad would be brought back.

These protests are a waste of time - the only way to rid the present government is with the help of the military! And I hope that doesn't happen, as Pakistan has more pressing issues that need to be addressed. We need to focus on terrorism, we need to improve our health care system, focus on education, etc. Elections are over. Even in the United States, Bush was not elected fair and square - and yet, the people accepted it and let him govern not for 4 years but 8. Let the people decide, once again, when the next elections happen, if Mr. Sharif is to win the elections. For now, let us move on and focus on more pressing issues. When was the last time, a leader resigned, because a few thousand people protested. A total waste of time!

I voted for PML N to fix 3 things as a priority which I thought they could do better than IK due to experience. These were security including operation against terrorists, power generation and reviving economy. To date I am happy the way things are progressing. Its great to read news that shopping centres are filled with people and that terror attacks have stopped. I also think NS is doing his level best to finish power projects within next 4 years. Economy also seems to be headed in the right direction although the progress on reforms is slow. All in all I think its satisfactory and I don't think IK would have done any better. In fact on security front he would still be holding dialogue with taliban while they killed our women and children daily.

Unfortunately our politicians and the people of Pakistan use different dictionaries when they look at the definition of "Democracy". For politicians, democracy is important when they are in power and it's meaningless when they are in opposition. For the people of Pakistan, who keep trying different parties, democracy means change through legislation and solution of their most pressing problems like health, education, law and order, justice etc. You guys have been in power in Punjab for the last six to seven years, please tell us what change you have brought to the lives of Pumjabis in those years.
In countries where there is democracy, the issues affecting the general public are given priority and their leaders don't live in palaces (personal or those belonging to the state), state is not run like a family business, ministers take responsibility of their departments and are removed if they are incompetent, politicians work on bringing new legislation rather than shouting abuse at each other on talk shows, leaders don't disappear for weeks when the country is at war, etc. etc.
Mr Sharif, please tell us which democracy you are talking about.

I just watched two Quaid Azam documentaries. This is not what he fought for, this is not what he died for and devoted most of his life for. Barely 50 years later and you have destroyed what just a few years ago was a dream come true, a struggle that became reality. At best Nawaz is incompent, at worst he is a lying, thief. While it is funny that Nawaz Sharif is making these comments from Jeddah, he is right. Sure, democracy is far from perfect in Pakistan but it can be improved over time. Problems like corruption cannot be solved overnight. This idea that a 'tsunami' can wipe the slate clean and bring about a complete overhaul is ludicrous. Imran Khan has not been able to root out corruption in KPK in over a year (so much for 90 days) not because he is not competent, but because corruption is so deeply embedded in our system.
As far Imran Khan's Azadi March is concerned, wasn't it supposed to be about "rigging" in the elections? But now he wants to create a new system because...well because, that's what he suddenly wants now and his cult members will be behind him regardless of what he spews.

NS had gone to Saudi Arabia to seeking's blessings and support of the Americans against IK's azadi March on August 14, 2014. It appears that he has succeeded thanks to the King the Yanks are on board. However, took 9 days stay and multiple meetings with the Saudi PM and other officials and a meeting with the king.
Upon NS's return the fun will start, there will be a pretension of attempt to negotiate but come Aug.14, containers will block the road to Islamabad, Police and rangers will be out in full force the March.
On the political front, there may be ruling on Sita and daughter affair against IK initiated by A. Iftikhar. He and other PTI leaders will be house arrested to stop the March.
My prediction - NS will do all that and survive, gain a bit of time but will fail to stop the mid-term polls.

@ashfaq1 Actually PML has not done their homework properly prior to election. Most probably they were not expecting that they will come in power but thanks to rigging they got it. In energy sector they were surpriesed that the present lines cannot beat more than 15000MG of electricity and their leader wre promising tyo finish the load shedding withing 6 months-biggest lie; against terrorism they were soft from the beginning which helped the TTP become very strong in their own province. They promised to break "kashkol" and after election they took lot of loan than any other government.Corruption, street crimes on the rise, elites are having "achey din" and the general masses are suffering. Still they have time to become honest, sincere to their voters. If KP can do away with Police corruption then why can't Punjab Government?. I

Remember Musharraf toppled your heavy mandated democracy calling it a "Sham Democracy". Then, he went 9 years making it a real democracy and conducted election that were run on sympathy votes for slain Benazir. The result was "Zardari holding reins" of what he called "Democracy of Revenge" that lasted full 5-years.
Now, you are dreaming of a Democracy that brings Revolution!
Dear Mr.PM, revolution starts in mind. The day you will realize what barricaded your two previous sojourns with democracy and again rocking your palace now and clear your way, you will definitely start a real revolution. But, you will have to get a permanent riddance from your selfish-sycophant cronies who only work for their own glorification, even if it lasts a few moments.
Remember, effective and result oriented governance only and only comes through "effective delegation" of powers.

Yes, but only a genuine democracy, not a sham democracy. But first, we must establish an impartial, uncorrupt administrative system and a judicious election commission who can conduct a transparent elections. Anything short of that is nothing but false and won't work.

Mr. PM ( undeserved to be called so), you are saying some thing without knowing what it means. Your democracy is corruption, corruption, lack of law and order, electricity etc. You are not able to impress your looted masses with your slogans. You have regained power through unfair means. The opressed masses of Pakistan cannot bring change in the parliament, they have no solution other than protesting on the streets

NW returns after obtaining the blessings of the US thru Saudi king against IK. In the coming days, major decision will be announced to bring down IK's reputation regarding Sita and her daughter. Thereafter the containers will block all roads to Islamabad and all key PTI leaders will house arrested and charged under sc.245 of the constitution. IK will be tested.
