Pakistan’s Waseem storms into Games boxing final

GLASGOW: Pakistani boxer Mohammad Waseem grabbed a magnificent 3-0 victory against his Ghanaian opponent in the semi-final of the Commonwealth Games on Friday to reach the final.

Waseem knocked out his Ghanian opponent Abdul Omar in the men’s fly 52kg bout contested.

Waseem will fight Australian opponent Andrew Moloney for gold medal in the international event.

Speaking to a TV channel on Friday, Waseem sounded confident of winning gold medal. “I want to win gold medal for Pakistan and I am prepared for the big fight ahead,” he said.

“Amir Khan is my ideal boxer and I want to make a name for myself and my country by emerging as the best here.”
