SUKKUR, July 20: The first civil judge, Sukkur, raided the Abad police station, Sukkur, on Saturday and set free at least 11 detainees who were being kept illegally in the lockup there for several days.
A relative of one of the detainees, Latif Dino Jatoi, filed an application with the district and sessions judge, Sukkur, in which he stated that his relative had been arrested by the Abad police without a reason and they were demanding illegal gratification for his release.
So the district and sessions judge directed the first civil judge, Sukkur, Rafiq Ahmed Soomro, to raid the police station and submit a report.
On Saturday evening, Mr Rafiq along with his staff raided the Abad police station where they found 11 people being kept in illegal confinement. He ordered the SHO concerned to release all the 11 detainees.
The names of seven illegal detainees have been ascertained as Din Mohammad, Arbelo, Mohammad Urs, Madad Ali, Dillo, Hazoor Bux, and Gulab Jogi.
The judge sealed the records of the police station and directed the officials concerned to attend his court on Monday morning.
MAN KILLED: Some armed men opened fire on a man, Nazar Hussain, 38, killing him on the spot in the Ghulam Nabi Bhutto village, near Daharki, Ghotki district, on Sunday.
He was a resident of Ahmed Pur Sharqia, Punjab.
BOY DROWNS: A 13-year-old boy, Mehtab Mirani, drowned in the Indus River, near old Sukkur, on Sunday.
ACCIDENT: A 15-year-old boy, Abdul Malik, drowned in the Nara Canal on Sunday. He was a resident of the Konhara village, Sukkur district.
CONSTABLE DIES: A constable, Naimatullah Chandio, was hit and killed by a bus (RPT-7986) at the Sadhoja Stop, near Moro, on Sunday.
The constable signalled the bus to stop but its driver, Rana Shakeel Ahmed Rajput, instead of stopping ran the bus over the constable killing him on the spot. The driver of the bus fled leaving his bus behind.
ANTI-DACOIT OPERATION: The police of at least 15 police stations of Shikarpur district have cordoned off the Golo Daro Belo area in a drive against dacoits on Sunday.
They were led by the DPO, Shikarpur, Abdul Khaliq Shaikh.
