ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution in which the Israeli assault on Gaza was condemned.

“This House unanimously condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the brutal Israeli strikes against the Palestinian people of Gaza and those abetting this genocide including unarmed civilians and innocent women and children, which have resulted in the loss of precious lives, injuries to thousands, and displacement of large number of people from their homes, causing the people of Pakistan and the Muslim World great pain and anguish,” the resolution read.

The resolution stated the United Nations inquiry should be held into the atrocities being committed by the Israeli army against Palestinian civilians.

It also called for an emergency meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), stating that the pan-Islamic group must do its part in resolving the crisis.

The policy statement was made by Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz.

“We condemn unprovoked Israeli aggression against innocent Palestinians and continues to support efforts for resolution of the problem,” he said.

“The Pakistani government and nation stands by the Palestinian brethren in this hour of agony. Our hearts ache for innocent and unarmed Palestinians who were targeted and brutally killed by Israeli forces even during the holy month of Ramazan.

“Even the UN schools were attacked to kill Palestinians. Water system in Gaza has been destroyed and today they are living without food, medicine and shelter.

“We do not see any logical justification for Israeli cruelties. We cannot name it anything other than unprovoked aggression,” Aziz said.

“We are in constant contact with the United Nations, OIC as well as Non-Aligned Movement.”

He said the focus of Pakistan's efforts to evolve opinion for condemnation of Israeli aggression, ceasefire in Gaza, assistance to affected people and bring the siege of Gaza to an end.

“Durable peace in Middle East and establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state is our priority,” Aziz said.
