Military operation Zarb-i-Azb was launched by the Pakistan Army on June15 following a brazen militant attack on Karachi's international airport and failure of peace talks between the government and Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan negotiators.
Nearly a million people have fled the offensive in North Waziristan, which is aimed at wiping out longstanding militant strongholds in the area, which borders Afghanistan.

Be it american drone or pakistani airstrikes, the casualties are mostly suspected. It means, they are not sure that militants are being killed. In fact 90% are civilians and 10% are hardly militants.

@Mohammad Iqbal Where is this "in fact" coming from? What Dawn cannot verify for a single strike you can as a general percentage?

@Qasim Independent verification is just a joke. When reporting on TTP, Dawn always said, "speaking from an undisclosed location" - but never once mentioned the need to verify or that it indeed verified the caller and its authenticity.

However, these claims could not be independently verified as journalists have limited access to the restive tribal agency. Dawn 5 August 2014. Why, I ask, Why is the Army does not realize that this "War on Terror" which the Army engaged in do not serve Pakistan's interest? Should not they say "enough is enough"? The fact that this area where the Army operation continues is a no-go area for journalists and others. These operations have resulted in million people being homeless and refugees. There is bound to be a reaction to such atrocities. It is but natural.

It's remarkable to note that suicide bombings have stopped. I think we need to ask the politicians why they were opposing this operation? What backlash?
