Four injured in Chaman blast

QUETTA: At least three people were injured on Monday when an explosion occurred near a security forces convoy on the Mall Road in Balochistan’s Chaman area, DawnNews reported.

Niamatullah, a police official told Dawn.com that unidentified militants planted an improvised explosive device (IED) on a motorcycle parked on the road side.

"The IED went off when security forces' vehicle passed by it", he said.

The injured include four passersby. Rescue sources rushed to the site of the incident and shifted the injured to Civil Hospital Chaman.

The blast damaged the glasses of nearby shops on Mall Road, which is considered to be one of the busiest parts of the bordering town Chaman.

Police, Frontier Corps and Levies personnel reached the spot as an investigation into the incident went underway.

No one claimed responsibility for the attack.

This incident came a week after a similar blast occurred which injured eight, including two police officials in Chaman.


Turbat firing


In another incident, armed militants opened fire at a levies check post in Balochistan's Turbat area.

A levies official who requested anonymity told Dawn.com that militants attacked the check post and later set two motorcycles on fire.

The assailants escaped in their vehicle after the attack. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

There was no loss of life reported in the incident.
