RAWALPINDI: The customs authorities arrested a Pakistan International Airlines’ crew member on Monday after they recovered 37 smart phones, three tablets and 5,000 British pounds from him.

The assistant collector customs said that they had intelligence that a flight crew member would smuggle a large quantity of mobile phones into the country from UK.

The customs authorities started surveillance of the flight crew of PK-786, arriving from London.

He said as the cabin crew of PIA flight PK-786 arrived at the lounge, the customs official searched their baggage and recovered 37 smart phones of different brands, three tablets and British pounds 5,000 from the suitcase of one of the crew members.

During preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed that it was his first attempt to smuggle smart phones. The crew member would be produced in court on Tuesday.
