Sukkur to get filtered water

SUKKUR, July 21: The federal government has allocated Rs370 millions for supply of filtered water to the people of Sukkur, out of which a first instalment of Rs100 million has been received and work on the filter plant has begun.

This was said by Sukkur District Nazim Syed Nasir Hussain Shah while talking to journalists at the press club here on Monday.

He said that Rs180 million were allocated for development works in the Sukkur district and Rs70 millions were granted under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme.

On a complaint that the contractors working on the development schemes in Sukkur had used substandard material, he said that an investigation would be conducted into the allegations.

The journalists told the Nazim that Queens Road and many other roads of the city were destroyed by the rains after two months of their construction. Mr Shah said that an investigation into the matter was underway.

Meanwhile, Mr Shah inaugurated a three-day high risk area anti-polio campaign by administering polio drops to the children at Jamiat Saudagran Hospital, Sukkur.
