Hrithik Roshan to star in 'Mohenjo Daro'

Disney India and Ashutosh Gowariker Productions Pvt. Ltd (AGPPL) are to collaborate on Mohenjo Daro.
Directed by Gowariker, the film will star Hrithik Roshan and new comer Pooja Hegde in an epic adventure love story set at the time of the Indus Valley Civilization.
Mohenjo Daro, meaning Mound of the Dead in Sindhi, is a lost civilization that was abandoned in 19th century BCE. The city’s ruins lie in the Larkana district of Sindh, and are a designated Unesco World Heritage Site since 1980.
Given the settings, the movie is likely to be a sweeping historical extravaganza, along the lines of Jodhaa Akbar and Lagaan, the former also an association between UTV Motion Pictures (aka Disney India), while the latter an Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Film; both movies were critical and box-office hits.
According to a press release, Disney India Producer Sunita Gowariker said, “There has always been a natural creative synergy between UTV and AGPPL in our previous movies. This time through our collaboration with Disney we'll have an even greater focus on entertaining families”.
“After Jodhaa Akbar, we are thrilled to work with Ashutosh and Hrithik again, and we are excited about bringing another wonderful Indian story to the big screen,” said Amrita Pandey, VP and Head of Marketing & Distribution, Disney Studios, India.
Mohenjo Daro is set to go into production in South Africa from October 2014.

Go ahead and make it but Mohanjo Daro is not an Indian "story" as pointed out here. Mohanjo Daro is a Pakistani historical site as is the Indus Vally Civilization which at some point touched areas of Central Asia and even half way to Delhi but it's center point was in Pakistan and around the Indus river. Indians have enough history to be found in their own country and should in general stop "stealing" history that happened in Pakistan.

Why didn't the Pakistan film industry think of making such a movie,Moenjo Daro being located here?Or do we disown all culture prior to the advent of Islam?
And why does the Indian team have to travel across the seven seas to shoot the movie in Africa?We should have offered them use of the historic venue and reaped many dividends as a result.It would have generated local employment,would have engaged a few of our artists in the film besides transferring the latest film making technology to our moribund industry.The Pakistan tourist industry would have also benefitted enormously,as a consequence.Even now there is no no harm if the concerned authority on the Indian side is approached for a joint venture.Will our decision makers be upto such a task?

@Inam Your suggestions are all very good. Supposedly, Pakistan film industry and many people working in the industry would have benefitted even if it is an Indian production. There is just one glitch. The Govt. of Pakistan would be giving permission for such a project. In the end there would be only few beneficiaries. Those would be Nawaz Sharif and all his close relatives and friends. And that's how this super Panavision 70 mm, surround sound, blockbuster story would turn out to be.....THE END.

Mohenjodaro comes in Sindh in Pakistan
Will be interesting, if these Indians will plan to come to Dubai for some sight shooting even if movie is not made here. At least they should get the idea how the sets should look like.
A good move will be also if some Pakistani actors from Sindh origin who are in dramas are offered character roles. But knowing Indian attitude, they will not care and pretend Mohenjodaro today is in Pakistan

Great idea, I have been to Moen jo Daro and to the Pyramids site in Egypt. Honestly, Moen jo Daro is an amazing experience and has not got the right limelight We should invite the team to use the real location rather than using some made up location in Rajhastan or Orisa.

As long as the movie is not used as a propaganda tool, it is okay. Propaganda is generally half truth o not the full truth used to let down others or elevate oneself.
Anyway, 600 million Muslim living in Bangladesh, India & Pakistan did not come from Saudi Arabia, Central Asia, middle East or anywhere else. 95 to 99 percent should be locals.

@Shah before 1500s there was no pakistan, islam or whatever..u cn not change the fact that we share the same history culture accent race..but see what have we done to places and monuments, we took care of all the memorials monuments despite from which dynasty had founded it....but my friend how many Hindus are left there in pak? what have u done to mohan jodaro which is birth place of Indus Valley civilization..just bcz u guys hate hindus/non-muslims..why u guys forget u r not from Arab or Mughals..!!

FIRSTLY, It'll be utterly disheartening and depressing to see the Indian/Pakistani 'Us/Them' divisions sprout up here again, with one party accusing the other of stealing 'their' culture. What a pity. How myopic and misinformed can we get? We should all be ashamed of ourselves. The Indus Valley was one of the crucibles of modern civilization. Its interaction and mingling with the Vedic/Aryan culture was instrumental in the development of latter day Hindu traditions. The sub-continent shares a common history and heritage that everyone needs to study and understand. This isn't a case of cultural appropriation at all, but a modern day reinterpretation of historical fact.
SECONDLY, As for the people making the point of shooting the film in the 'real' location, they need to understand that the geographic/environmental/physical conditions in the area 4000 years ago were significantly different than they are today. That's why it's a reinterpretation, and therefore requires imagination. Shooting at a different place isn't necessarily a bad choice.
THIRDLY, it's not as if the Pakistani government (or the people themselves) bother much about historic/cultural preservation. The site is dilapidated and we're quickly losing it. I encourage everyone to move beyond their petty differences, look at the bigger picture and cherish our shared cultural and historic roots for what they truly are.

@Humza there's is nothing like Hinduism religion. It's Vedic religion which has been there since ever. Hinduism word is more related to geographical area. The whole subcontinent comes under Vedic civilization. Get your information correct. Read few books if you guys are allowed to read or is it also prohibited.

Accepting Indus civilisation as your history would also tell you that your forefathers were descendants of Hindus and Buddhists. That would bring eternal shame to many people in your country, including Hamid Gul.

@Humza Irony of your statement lies in the fact that the word 'Hindu' (Persian origin) was derived from the word 'Indus' (Greek origin), which in turn was derived from the Sanskrit word 'Sindhu' That's why the Indus Valley civilization is called 'Sindhu Ghati Sabhyata' in Hindi/Sanskrit.

Moenjodaro existed before any Vedic or ancient Hinduism religion was invented by people. It's a historical archaeological site of PAKISTAN. I am a Sindhi and Moenjodaro is our history. Foreign Indians commenting here don't have anything to do with it.

My first visit to Mohenjadaro was in 1950 when I was studing at St Mary's School, Sukkur. The School trip was with about 30 students. We went by train and slept at the railway station for about 3 days. Out team leader was Father Lobo with three other teachers, two females and a male. We carried our cooking utensils and food which we cooked for the whole group everyday.
The curator took us around the sites. As School kids we were more interested with some goats which were at the museum.
Later when I grew up I visited the Taxilla Museum which seemed more interesting as the city had a lot of stone ware sold to the public
.
I hope the movie which is being made with the great handsome Indian Actor Hrithik Roshan is
made in English so that the whole World can enjoy the movie.

@Shah - brother, in 19th Century BCE, we were one(India and Pakistan)..Indus valley civilization is one of the oldest civilization and we both should be proud of it..I think the one of the most important thing that may make/keep us unite is our common history and culture...Its high time that we should move ahead of hate that people are spreading on both sides of the border...cheers to Pakistan and India!!
