Tens of thousands of Pakistanis have marched onto the federal capital in the name of inqilab (revolution) – a word so frequently being used by political leaders in their public statements as well as people active on social media that it feels like it has lost all meaning. But what exactly does “revolution” mean?

The past century has proven time and time again that most revolutions that occurred all over the world have not led to democratic and responsible leadership but simply a transfer of power – more often repressive than not.

Herald has invited several renowned writers and scholars, well versed in history and political science to share their answers to the following question.

What does a revolution in Pakistan mean to you?

Their answers will be published in Herald’s September 2014 issue.

Dawn.com invites its readers to share their thoughts on the posed question and selected comments will be included in the upcoming issue of the Herald. Click here to subscribe to the magazine.
