LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will hold elections of the Lahore region at the Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday at 10:00am.
Earlier, the elections were to be held on Aug 7 but then acting PCB chairman retired Justice Sair Ali, who was also the election commissioner, postponed the polls to first hold elections of the PCB chairman.
After holding the elections of the PCB chairman on Aug 18 in result of which Shaharyar Khan was elected, the PCB announced the fresh date for the elections of Lahore.
The PCB patron, who is the prime minister, will appoint a new election commissioner to conduct the Lahore polls following Justice Sair Ali’s resignation.
However, in the absence of an election commissioner, Ahmed Shehzad Farooq Rana, who was the election commissioner before Justice Sair Ali took over the job, would conduct the elections as deputy election commissioner.
Khawaja Nadeem is most likely to be elected again for his second term of three years as no candidate is contesting him.
The lone rival before Khawaja Nadeem had been PCB’s former chairman retired Lt Gen Tauqir Zia but he withdrew himself from the contest in support of Khawaja Nadeem.
However, elections will be held for the posts of secretary and treasurer.
Shoaib Dar is the candidate of secretaryship from Khawaja Nadeem but there is a hurdle in his way to get elected as according to one of the rules of the PCB, both president and secretary could not be from one zone.
Khawaja Nadeem and Shoaib Dar are from West Zone.
