Zardari vows to defend democracy

KARACHI: PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has reiterated his party’s resolve to defend democracy and to support democratic forces and institutions.

Presiding over a meeting of PPP members of the Sindh cabinet along with the party’s Patron-in-chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari at the Bilawal House on Sunday, Mr Zardari reviewed issues relating to development and law and order.

Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani and Deputy Speaker Shehla Raza attended the meeting.

Mr Zardari urged the ministers to focus on development projects and step up contacts with people who had given them the mandate to work for the well-being of the common man.

Referring to his meetings with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and leaders of different political parties in Lahore on Saturday, Mr Zardari said he had expressed his resolve to defend democracy for which PPP leaders had sacrificed their lives.

The meeting praised Mr Zardari for meeting leaders of different parties.

Ministers who attended the meeting included Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani, Manzoor Wassan, Murad Ali Shah, Sharjeel Memon, Mukesh Kumar, Jam Khan Shoro, Mumtaz Jakhrani and Jam Mehtab Dehr.
