LAHORE: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar arrived in Karachi where he will meet leadership of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) as well as Governor Sindh Ishratul Ebad.
Sarwar, who has been acting as a key negotiator on behalf of the government in its talks with Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), will also establish telephonic contact with MQM chief Altaf Hussain during his visit.
Sarwar has been tasked with convincing Imran Khan to budge from his stance of Nawaz Sharif’s resignations over rigging allegations.
The governor’s task has taken on critical proportions now as talks between the government and PTI have again hit a deadlock over the demand for the premier’s resignation.
Sarwar’s flight also comes hours after the PTI held discussions with the heads of opposition parties in the National Assembly to get their support for its ‘in-house change formula’.
The PTI camp believes that it has offered the best possible way out to Nawaz, allowing the PML-N to stay in power while the proposed Supreme Court judicial commission carries out the investigation into allegations about election rigging.
