HANGU, July 23: The no-confidence motion tabled during the budget session on Tuesday against the district Nazim failed on Wednesday as only four of the 17 members turned up for the session.

The movers accused their colleagues of breach of trust as the motion was to be put to vote before the council. The leader of opposition in the council conceded the no-trust move had been defeated.

Union Nazims Hidayatul Haq and Shoaib, who had brought the no-trust motion against district Nazim Pir Haider Ali Shah, told reporters that they had been deceived by their colleagues.

Union Nazim Shafiqur Rehman, who is also leader of the opposition in the council, also accused other Nazims and councillors of having backed out of the no-trust vote against the district Nazim.

Pir Haider, speaking at a press conference later, said the councillors and union Nazims had every right to express their grievances and point out any shortcomings in the working of the district government.

The absence of majority of the members from the council’s session, he added, was the expression of confidence in his leadership.

Those who could not see the district progress would be frustrated the way their mala fide motion was defeated, he added.
