TAXILA: Pakistan Ordinance Factories (POF) Wah Badminton Tournament 2014 concluded at POF Sports Complex on Saturday.

In the final of the super veterans’ doubles category, Lt-Gen Muhammad Ahsan Mahmood and retired Brig Taqdees Ahmed defeated Wah Brass Mill Managing Director Khalid Pervez and POF Managing Director Dr Riaz Bhatti 2-0.

In the men’s doubles final, Mudassar Mushtaq and Hassan Raza Kazmi defeated Irfan Ahmed and Hamza Ismail 2-0, as well. Hassan Raza Kazmi also defeated Irfan Waheed by 2-0 in the men’s singles final.

In the final match of POF officers’ doubles, Aqeel Ahmed Khan and Amir Khan won the match by defeating Naveed Shah and Amjad Ishaq by 2-0. Similarly, in the boys’ under-17 category, Usman Tariq defeated Shaheed by 2-0.

Chief Guest Lt-Gen Muhammad Ahsan Mahmood distributed trophies and medals among the winners.

He congratulated the POF Sports Control Board for holding a successful event and hoped that the board would continue playing its role for the promotion of sports in Wah Cantonment. Earlier, in his welcoming remarks, POF Sports Control Board Vice President retired Col Inam Ullah Khan said the tournament consisted of eight different categories, in which 310 players participated, including POF employees with their families, students from Wah and employees of departments such as NDC, HIT, Nescom, PMO and AWC.

He added that the board has always strived for the promotion of sports. He announced that the board was planning to organise the 37th National Kabaddi Championship Circle 2014 from September 11 to 15. The kabaddi tournament will also be attended by participants from Iran and Afghanistan.
