KOHAT: The police on Thursday arrested two people over the killing of five members of a family in Alizai area last week. They said the killings were committed in the name of honour.

Suspect Gulfam told the police during interrogation that he along with Sadiq Ali entered the house of his brother, Hashim Khan, and killed him, his wife and three children.

District police officer Saleem Marwat told reporters here that Gulfam had revealed that he had been telling his brother to kill his 20-year-old daughter, Fauzia, for eloping with a man twice before returning home.

He said the suspect was not happy with his brother’s decision to spare his daughter and thought she had disgraced the family.

The DPO said the police quizzed the family, which had been accused of keeping Fauzia in their house, but it expressed ignorance about killers.

He said the police later raided a house in Ustarzai area on a tip-off and arrested Gulfam along with Sadiq Ali over the killings.

Besides, the DPO also informed reporters that during last month, the police launched a special campaign against criminals and arrested 573 people, including 62 proclaimed offenders.

He said the proclaimed offenders were wanted by the police for murder, attempted murder, theft and smuggling.

The DPO said the police had also seized 15 kalashnikovs, 14 rifles, 26 shotguns, 76 pistols, 4,676 cartridges, five hand grenades and 40 kilogrammes hashish.

He said the arrested men were booked for criminal activities.
