GUJRANWALA: Traffic on Gujranwala-Hafizabad Road was suspended on Monday after a flood from Chenab washed away 200 feet long section of the track.

The gas pipelines and electricity system were also affected. The business community and people of Hafizabad were facing a great deal of inconvenience to reach Gujranwala. They urged the chief minister to get the road cleared at the earliest.

According to a report reaching here, about 200 villages of Hafizabad and Pindi Bhattian were badly affected and the people had taken refuge on the rooftops of their houses or in open spaces.

Similarly, a breach in Nullah Dek inundated Qazi Kot village in Kamoki tehsil affecting 200 families. Rescuers were shifting the people to safer places.

District Coordination Officer Azmat Mehmood and army officers continued supervision of rescue operation in Wazirabad and surrounding areas where relief and medical camps had been set up for treatment of the affected people.

Reports said the flood situation in Wazirabad was improving as municipal sanitation staff was pumping out water from the town.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Yousaf of Ghakkhar and Muhammad Nazir of Sikanderpura, Wazirabad, died when the roofs of their houses caved in on Monday.

Arshad of Mian Sansi Road was on his way after withdrawing Rs400,000 from a bank on Sheikhupura Road when two armed men intercepted him. They snatched the bag containing cash and escaped.

Amanat of Qila Dedar Singh was deprived of Rs161,000 by two gunmen.
