NAROWAL: The floodwater is receding in various parts of the district.

Irrigation Department Executive Engineer Muhammad Riaz said on Tuesday the water level in Nullah Dek had been reduced to 8,000 cusec from 65,000 cusec, Nullah Basanter (4,000 cusec), Nullah Baein (1,600 cusec) and river Ravi at Jassar (26,000 cusec). He said the floodwater level was expected to decrease in the next two days.

Fifteen people have lost their lives due to roof and wall-collapse incidents and electric shocks during the last few days in the district.

DCO Najaf Iqbal said 131 villages and about 15,000 acres of agricultural land had been badly affected. He said officials of the district government were gathering data about the damage the flood had caused.

Efforts were being made to provide all possible facilities to the flood-hit, he said.

District Emergency Officer Dr Munawwar Ali said the Rescue 1122 staff had shifted 1,649 people from the flooded areas to safe places during the last three to four days.

Residents of flood-hit Narangwali village protested a lack of facilities and chanted slogans against the district administration. They alleged no government official had come to their village to provide them with food, medicines and fodder for their animals.
