DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The district administration is facing shortage of relief goods meant for internally displaced persons (IDPs) of North Waziristan Agency.

The district administration has called upon the authorities concerned to provide the items to it on priority basis so that the IDPs could be extended relief.

According to an official daily report, the administration needs several relief items including 6,000 big tents, 6,000 tarpaulins, 4,000 water coolers, 6,000 water tanks, 18,000 solar lights, 18,000 bed sheets, 18,000 packets of water purification tablets, 6,000 plastic mats, 6,000 kitchen sets, 6,000 mosquito nets, 6,000 mattresses, 6,000 pedestal fans and 4,000 hygiene kits for the IDPs, who left North Waziristan Agency after a military operation was launched there.

The report shows that the administration has accelerated its efforts to arrange the required items. Various organisations have pledged to provide 2,500 tents, 4,000 tarpaulins, over 6,000 hygiene kits and 3,500 kitchen items to the IDPs.

According to the document, most of the IDPs are staying with host families in big compounds, but they still need tents.

Sources said that the administration might not find any problem in carrying out relief activities as most of the displaced families were staying with their relatives. So far, over 27,350 food items and over 13,600 non-food items have been distributed among 5985 displaced families in the district.

The report says that so far over 3,076 displaced families have received Rs8,000 each till Sept 15. It says that gastro, allergy and water-borne diseases are common among the IDPs and so far over 9,790 patients have been provided medical treatment.
