KARACHI: Talented youngsters Kumail Ali and Fahad Khan won their respective matches in contrasting fashion to confirm their place in the second round of mens singles event at the NBP Open Tennis Championship which started here Saturday at DA Creek Club.

Kumail found little resistance from his first round opponent Shaheryar Nawaz and recorded a convincing 6-1, 6-0 triumph. However, Fahad was taken to a full distance of the game by Saifullah Shoaib before the former registered a 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 victory.

Shoaib Abbas eased into the second round of the event after he got a walkover against Fahad Agha in the Junior U-17 first round while Asad Khan recorded an immaculate 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Results:

Mens singles first round: Kumail Ali bt Shaheryar Nawaz 6-1, 6-0, Fahad Khan bt Saifullah Shoaib 6-3, 5-7, 10-8, Haroon Ahmed bt Saad Ahmed 6-0, 6-4, Jahangir bt Ali Imran Malik 6-1, 6-0, Shoaib Abbas w/o Fahad Agha Junior.

U-17 first round: Asad Khan bt Romyo Tareja 6-0, 6-0, Hania Naveed bt Anonshe Salah 6-0, 6-0, Mazhar Hayat bt Waqas 6-0, 6-3, Nasrallah Khan bt Nouseer Anwar 6-2, 6-4, Amin Shafi w/o Ali Muhammad.
